SHARES NEW TRACK & VIDEO ‘ACOUSCOUS’
OUT NOW INDEPENDENTLY ALONGSIDE B-SIDE ‘PK’’
NYC producer and songwriter emawk contemplates his emotional growth on ‘ACOUSCOUS,’ out now independently. A deep and melodic RnB tune, ‘ACOUSCOUS’ blends plucked acoustic guitars and hip hop beats which serve as the bed for emawk’s gentle, soulful vocals. The track comes accompanied by a simple but captivating music video, choreographed by Aiden Gibney and starring Jarvis Langster and Gregg Sainvillus. Director Mattias Russo-Larsson notes, “whilst it is open for interpretation, the video loosely represents two black men going through hardship together, who find a resolution at the end, expressed via dance.”
emawk really is one of the most compelling artists right now. A slower composition that focuses on the building beats and intricate rhythm whilst emawk‘s unique and soulful voice soars across the instrumentation. The delicate storyline is approached with truthful lyrics whilst the developing soundscape becomes a beacon of ambient elements, bold beats, and this mesmerizing flow.
The vocal harmonies that cascade throughout the intricate arrangement emits this charismatic and easy vibe, forcing the audience to slow down and embrace the lyrics and consume each rhythmic beat bouncing off the fragile soundscape. An artist that creates such compelling visions the atmosphere carefully crafted can alter the listeners’ own mood. A powerful artist!
“ACOUSCOUS is about one of the ways I’ve learnt to process feeling misunderstood/misjudged. Sometimes I’m able to take it lightly, know that I’m okay, and not take outside negativity to heart. I’m still learning how to let go of what I fear others think about me. Much love to Zach Ezzy (who produced ACOUSCOUS) and my manager Lewis who encouraged me to finally finish this song, If it wasn’t for the two of them, it would still be chilling on my laptop.”
The track is the latest installment in emawk’s ambitious audiovisual project, which will see him release new tracks and corresponding videos steadily throughout 2021. emawk has also released B-side track ‘PK,’ which juxtaposes ‘ACOUSCOUS’ by representing the times where he strays towards defeatism. In emawk’s words, “At other times, I grow resentful and distant because I feel like, even if I explain myself, it wouldn’t change how others saw me.” Both tracks follow on from the release of previous single ‘HIGHROAD’ last month, which gained immediate support from Jack Saunders on BBC Radio 1 ‘Future Artists.’
emawk is the moniker of Boston-born, Kenyan raised, New York based Kwame Nkrumah who began releasing music in 2017, releasing EP for ness with standout track ‘someone’ gaining over 2 million streams on Spotify. From ‘for ness’, he went on to release a string of singles throughout the next few years, such as standout tracks ‘Later’ ‘18’ and ‘Ambivalence’. emawk has achieved over 30 million streams across all platforms with support from Spotify editorial playlists Alternative R&B, Low-Key, and Acoustic Massage, as well as gaining support from the likes of Colours x Studios, Pigeons and Planes, BBC Radio 1 and BBC Radio 1Xtra.
