SISTER WIVES

Announce Crags AA Single
Due 26th February on Delicious Clam Records

Following their acclaimed debut Gweler Ein Gofid last year, Sheffield’s Sister Wives return into the light with new Crags AA single on 10″ vinyl, featuring two new songs – “Crags” and “I Fyny Af / Rise”.

The single’s title track is a nod to local prehistoric gorge, Creswell Crags, where witches marks were discovered in 2019. The marks, also known as protective marks, were found around dark holes and crevices in the caves and are thought to have been used as part of rituals to warn off evil forces.

The notions of protection and ancient ritual tie in with the songs the band were working on at the time. They explain, “Both “I Fyny Af / Rise” and “Crags” are about summoning the consciousness of the land in times of despair; calling upon the ancient gods that live in the rocks, woods, lakes, seas and trees, and exploring spiritual suspicions and witchcraft. We wanted to explore both sides: the fear of witches, and also defend these long vilified women.”

Sister Wives have once again produced this colossal soundscape within their new track “I Fyny Af / Rise”. This outfit effortlessly harnesses their full-throttle encompassing energy and capture their unique spirit into their creations. With this new release, Sister Wives seize this vicious vision to achieve this audacious, delectable instrumentation. The new track welcomes you into this mighty wall of fuzz, the fuzz whirling around their vast vast exploration. The first new notes of their release are enough to become fixated on, the ambience is unruly. Then the beats, tone, and vocals join the ensemble and these elements all enthral.

This powerful riff consumes you, as it breaks out of the thick atmosphere, seemingly obliterating this pre-made structure to their effort. The ardent riff highlights this band’s crucial fixation on their overall tone. As these passages develop in the track, psychedelic tendencies cascade over the far-reaching rhythms of this addictive effort. The vocals allude to this enchanting resemblance, the vocal harmonies move the melody with such force and determination. The oohs and ahhs become this infectious chant which provides an additional compelling hook. Grungey notes play alongside the bolting drum beats that provide constant pressure and add a greater depth of intensity to this exploration.

Easily, one of the most exciting acts around.

Analogue evocations to Cymru’s sentient landscapes, from before the fall and after The Fall. Deep time and shallow graves. A coven dances around a burning holiday home to the strains of Hawkwind, Eno and Siouxsie. Astral projecting over the Green Desert. You are as far away as you will ever be from the world’s madness.

Sister Wives have previously been invited to support The International Teachers of Pop, Crack Cloud, The Eccentronic Research Council, Current Affairs, Kaputt, Flasher, Porridge Radio, as well as featuring on Warp Records’new music picks and regular play on BBC Wales and BBC Cymru
