Falcon Jane Shares Video For “Heaven” (Romshii Remix)

New Album: Faith – Out Now via Darling Recordings https://www.darlingrecordings.com/releases/faith

Ontario-based project Falcon Jane, led by lead singer and songwriter Sara May, are today sharing a video for the Romshii remix version of the recent single, “Heaven” – watch below . The original version of the track is lifted from Falcon Jane’s recently-released album, Faith (out now on Darling Recordings) which found tips at The Line of Best Fit, NPR, Under The Radar Magazine and more upon its release last Fall.

Faith serves as the follow-up to Falcon Jane’s debut album Feelin’ Freaky, which firmly established May’s self-labeled “plez-rock”. Still keeping some of those previously pleasant summer vibes, Faith sees May steer towards a darker spiral—one that personifies the often isolating meanderings that come with figuring it all out. “A lot of the songs on the album are written from me to me,” she explains. “It’s about trusting in yourself and believing in the thoughts and feelings in your own mind.”

The accompanying video paints the video for a tongue-firmly-in-cheek fake feud between Falcon Jane and the Toronto-based producer/artist, Romshii. Explaining how the collaboration came about, Sara May says: “Romshii and I have been feuding for years. We’re both a couple of know-it-alls who think our shit is gold. I remember when he tried to convince me to change the chorus of “Heaven”—perhaps as a form of sabotage. I guess I let him do a remix to try to prove a point, set him up for failure.”

Speaking about the meaning behind the new video, Sarah says: “I cannot believe Romshii’s behaviour! The guy has the gall to rip me off and then blast it in everyone’s face as if he’s created some kind of masterpiece. In my humble opinion, the original song was absolutely perfect as it was, and Romshii thinking he made the track better is just delusional. And have you seen the music video? Talk about pompous. He needs to get a grip and leave well enough alone!”

Such a powerful rework to an already sublime single release. This new standout collaboration utilising that emotive vocal harmony and immersing the lyrics with these sharp cuts, distinctive beats and imagining the visionary aspects of the charm that Flacon Jane convey. The focus being on the choppy vocals and the lyrics bouncing off the back of the bold beats.

Faith has found Sara May going back to the beginning: her home, her beliefs, and herself. This intention gave her the ability to take another look, to reassess, to breathe. Writing under the Falcon Jane moniker, May explores the intimate experience of getting to know yourself again, highlighting the banal but beautiful ebb and flow of our every day. Her new record is an investigation into what it means to be alive and the often painful experience of the ordinary. As someone who describes herself as “emotionally guarded,”

Falcon Jane is May outstretched, breaking through the introspective wall and inviting us in on the experiment.
