In celebration, McClellan has also shared a new video for ‘Raisin’. Beautifully animated by Thalia Rodgers, the video provides the perfect backdrop for ‘Raisin”s playful instrumental, relaying the feeling of freedom the narrator gains after jumping off a cliff.
A quick burst for only 1 minute 58, but this is plenty of time to get obsessed with this stunning arrangement. Anna posses such a unique vocal harmony, the lyrical journey feels so rich and captures an essence of a 70s heartfelt hit. Reaching notes that resemble Regina Spektor as the warm and jaunty instrumentation create the perfect bed to catch these words. The brooding bassline carries the momentum to the track. Anna McClellan is simply bursting with promise- the ability to captivate any audience is outstanding and the excitement is stepping up for the new album, which now has been released and ready for us all to be mesmerized.
I saw first light is McClellan’s third full length record, a body of work that tracks her move back to her hometown in Omaha, Nebraska. It’s a record that is constantly looking outwards, with McClellan’s dexterous, stream-of-consciousness lyrics mesmerising on every track.
Anna McClellan began performing original songs in her hometown of Omaha, NE at the age of seventeen and has been actively recording and touring ever since. Her debut, Fire Flames, earned her an opening slot on a Frankie Cosmos tour. Through the doors that tour opened, McClellan eventually met Father/Daughter Records which led to the release of her second full-length record, Yes and No, in 2018. After a stint in NYC, several subsequent tours and meandering, Anna returned to Omaha and recorded I saw first light, her latest effort for Father/Daughter.
The album was recorded over two weeks with a multitude of local cohorts, and it documents Anna’s journey from the Midwest to the east coast and back again, probing both the roots of her creative impetus and her ongoing commitment to social issues. The process of composing and recording I saw first light has both reformed and renewed her dedication to exploration, be it inward or external, and to her own boundless creative energy.
