THE STAVES ANNOUNCE DETAILS OF THIRD ALBUM

‘GOOD WOMAN’ DUE FOR RELEASE ON 5TH FEBRUARY 2021 VIA ATLANTIC RECORDS

TITLE TRACK STREAMING NOW

The Staves are very excited to announce their new album ‘Good Woman’, their first in six years, due for release on Atlantic Records on 5th February 2021. The soaring title track is now streaming, listen here.

Good Woman was written and recorded in a time of severe turmoil for the band, seeing the ending of relationships, the death of their beloved mother and the birth of Emily’s first child. Mostly self-produced (with John Congleton jumping on to assist), the album stands as a testament to their strength and that of other women, to sisters, mothers and daughters. To love, loss and change. To trying to be a good woman.

Good Woman carries those delicate and all-consuming Staves melodies and stunning harmonies. The Staves devour emotive and powerful orchestrations.

The Staves: “It’s taken us a long time to get here but we are so excited to announce our new album, ‘Good Woman’.

“We have been working on this for a long time and are thrilled to share the title track with you. When we think about making this album we think about moments and snapshots of all the different contexts we were in as it was made. Living in each other’s pockets and then living with oceans between us. On voice notes and field recordings and ideas in emails sent across continents. We think of homesickness and family. Of being an outsider. Of endless notebooks and scraps of paper. Of studios in the winter and recordings under the summer sun. Of rainy London days and long American night with coffees and beers, dogs and cats. We think of love. Big, big love. Our Mum. Our Dad, Our friends. And of loss. Death and birth. Womanhood, motherhood. Sisterhood.

And coming home.”

The trio recently released two brand new tracks, Nazareth (not found on the album) and Trying. The two tracks marked the band’s first new music since their collaborative EP with the New York based chamber ensemble yMusic back in 2017.

It’s been six long years since the release of the band’s acclaimed second album, If I Was, but the trio have been busy with extra-curricular. Jessica contributed vocals to Leonard Cohen’s final, posthumous record “Thanks For The Dance” produced by his son, Adam Cohen. And all three laid down their voices across a handful of tracks for Paul Weller’s recent number 1 album, On Sunset. With contributions over recent years for the likes of Lucy Rose, Bon Iver, and Flyte, those vocals remain in high demand.

The Staves have recently relaunched their podcast on Spotify. ‘Dial-A-Stave’ is an irreverent, fly-on-the-wall listen to the band’s everyday conversations with one another. Complete nonsense has rarely sounded quite so essential. A welcome late addition to your lockdown listening. Try it here
