Melissa Bel Shares New Single Sunshine
Singer-songwriter Melissa Bel returns with the release of her blues-infused balled, Sunshine, out now.
Sunshine is Melissa Bel as you’ve never heard her before. In this profoundly cutting ballad, Melissa breaks down experiences of disappointment and resignation with a despondent maturity and timeless, unplaceable sound. Combining country, blues and soul-tinged sensibilities, Melissa creates a sound that is totally her own and oozing with powerful emotion. Sunshine was co-written by Kris Bergsnes (Tim McGraw, Wynonna Judd) and produced by Joseph Cross (Lana Del Rey, La Roux).
Talking about the single, Melissa explains, “I wrote this song on my first – and so far only – trip to Nashville. I’d had that opening melody floating around in my head and when I sang it Kris and I knew we were going to write something soulful and sad, all about feel, less about hooks or structure. From there we ended up painting this picture of what it feels like to be let down by someone you really had high hopes for. Someone who had promised you better.”
Sunshine is a resounding success- a striking release showcasing the pure passion of Melissa. The single is enriched with such captivating soul and harrowing harmony, you will be lifted by this consuming composition.
Melissa grew up in Toronto listening to soul and classic rock. Since moving to the UK, her critically acclaimed album In The Light – produced by Justin Gray (Amy Winehouse, John Legend, Joss Stone) – reached #49 on the iTunes Canada Top 200 Pop Chart and has received praise from the likes of Impose Magazine, Gigslutz and For Folk’s Sake to name a few. Melissa’s previous single Can’t Go Home was also added to Amazon Music Canada’s Brand New Music playlist. Melissa has released four albums to date and has opened for artists such as Kylie Minogue, Matthew Good, Joey Landreth and Maverick Sabre. She also co-wrote Avril Lavigne’s single, Tell Me It’s Over and is quickly becoming a sought-after songwriter and artist.
