Elvis Perkins Shares New Single
“See Monkey”

Taken From Forthcoming Album “Creation Myths”
Out 2nd October via MIR/Petaluma Records

Elvis Perkins shares the latest single “See Monkey” from his forthcoming album, Creation Myths out October 2 (MIR/Petaluma Records).

Elvis says,“‘See Monkey’ is an ‘everything’s gonna be alright’ sort of song, a ‘we’re all only returning to the source’ sort of song, from the monkey that is me to the monkey that is you. ”

A swooping serenade that emits brooding intensity and far-reaching complex rhythms.

Elvis has previously shared, “See Through,”“Half Life” and the album’s closer “Anonymous.”

After recording what was ostensibly his fourth album – the soundtrack to the 2017’s The Blackcoat’s Daughter, a film directed by his brother, Osgood – Perkins was presented with a small window of time before diving back into the cycle of writing and recording a new record. Working once again with long-time producer Sam Cohen, he decided to finally record some of the songs that had been floating around in the ether for the better part of two decades. “I’ve carried them with me since their genesis, and I’ve always suspected that they would be documented at some point, but you never know when you’re gonna have that window, when it will finally feel like the right time.”

Creation Myths makes subtle nods to Americana and spooky, blissed-out folk, but never lights for too long on any one spot. If there is a lyrical or thematic through-line to Creation Myths, it might simply be a longing for connection, be it romantic or spiritual. Perkins notes, “Sometimes you do the best things when you don’t know what you’re doing yet. I called this record Creation Myths because, in a way, I really don’t know how these songs came into being. So they are the explanation of themselves.”

Perkins has a long and storied career as a maker of songs, releasing several celebrated albums since appearing with his debut, Ash Wednesday (XL Recordings) in 2007.  At the time he toured extensively with his Elvis Perkins In Dearland band and in 2009 they released both the Billboard charting Elvis Perkins In Dearland LP, and the Doomsday EP, both via XL.  In 2015 Elvis released I Aubade via MIR.

In recent years Elvis has made two film scores: I Am the Pretty Thing the Lives in the House and The Blackcoat’s Daughter. A soundtrack album for the latter was released via Death Waltz Recording Co. in 2017. His single, “There Go the Nightmericans” with the help of Revolutions Per Minute directs all proceeds to The Emergent Fund which supports communities most threatened by Trump administration policy.
