MADE UP MY MIND

VIA WINSPEAR

Featuring Fellow Chicago Musicians Sen Morimoto &

Will Miller (Whitney, Resavoir)

Introducing Divino Niño, who today shared their sensual and eclectic new single “Made Up My Mind” via Winspear.

The song is their first output since 2019’s critically acclaimed LP Foam (Winspear), as well as their first release since officially welcoming touring member Justin Vittori to the band.

Alternating between English and Spanish, Colombian-born singer Camilo Medina here navigates the highs and lows of love alongside Javier Forero (vox/bass), Pierce Codina (drums), Guillermo Rodriguez (vox/guitar), and Vittori (keyboard/auxiliary percussion), crafting a world of sensory pleasure replete with claps of thunder, crisp 808s, and syrupy harmonies.

This song is about the darker side of love,” explains MedinaRealizing the value of something right at the verge of losing it. This is the first time we’ve ever had trumpet/sax in a song and it definitely enhances the sad beauty in it.

“Made Up My Mind” was written on the heels of the band’s SXSW tour cancellation and completed at the start of the national COVID-19 shutdown, with Divino Niño hunkered down in an isolated Wisconsin cabin together working on new music. The single’s bittersweet horn arrangement is courtesy of fellow Chicago musicians Will Miller (Whitney, Resavoir), who tracked his trumpet part early in the song’s wake, and Sen Morimoto, who later tracked saxophone remotely. The band also worked with an outside mixing engineer for the first time (Patrick Wimberly, formerly of Chairlift; credits include work on albums for Solange and Blood Orange), while longtime collaborator Michael Hernandez helped with synth production.

This single is the perfect introduction to your new favourite outfit. “Made Up My Mind” provides such a rich appeal. With deep 70’s overtones and a sultry atmosphere aided by the soulful yet soothing progression of this cut. A compelling and surprising contemporary pop masterpiece. Weaving in such warm textures and curating their own mellow vibe.

Illustrated by the band’s own Camilo Medina, who has worked on artwork for Rosalia, Clairo, and King Princess amongst others, the artwork “Made Up My Mind” encapsulates the song’s different moods: dreamy, stormy and surreal. Fusing together sound and sight, Divino Niño has alchemized a kaleidoscopic world that you can almost reach out and touch.
