Joshua Burnside Releases New Single

‘The Only Thing I Fear’

In a world on the edge, misery loves company. Such is the mood conveyed by the release of Joshua Burnside’s double A-side ‘The Only Thing I Fear’. The anxious bedfellow of his last release ‘Whiskey Whiskey’, Burnside’s latest takes an introspective look at the fears and apprehensions that plague us.

An assortment of beasts, spectres and ghouls stalk the darkened hallways of ‘The Only Thing I Fear’, metaphors for the weighted dread and angst that Burnside has battled through his music.

A raw track that sheds a scant light over the dustiest corners of Burnside’s psyche, the simplistic composition of ‘The Only Thing I Fear’ bellies its expansive emotional horizon.

“The idea of this song is a simple one, that as we get older we realise that the really scary things in life are not external to us, but come from within – our darkest thoughts, irrational fears and insecurities, which if go unchecked can often lead to self-destructive behaviours.”

Three years after the release of his award winning debut ‘Ephrata’, the double a-side ‘Whiskey Whiskey’ and ‘The Only Thing I Fear’ sets the stage for what is Burnside’s most impressive body of work yet. Utilising a unique blend of traditional folk melodies and textures, with synthetic and lo-fi sounds, Burnside looks to meld 21st Century anxiety with an all-too-relatable humanity.

The new release continues to portray the intricate crafts of this beautiful artist. Simple textures building on such an emotional level as the track progresses. Soothing yet so sincere- Burnside captures honesty and raw empathy.
