MarthaGunn release new single “It’s Over”

April 12, 2020

MarthaGunn release their brand new single “It’s Over” via Communion Records.  Listen to the track here.  Like many bands during the current crisis, MarthaGunn have had to radically change their plans.  Instead of touring the UK this March, vocalist Abi Woodman toured Instagram instead, playing a special set (including a locally sourced cover) on every date the band had previously been booked to play. She brought in a range of guests to chat too, including appearances from William Rees (formerly of Mystery Jets), former British Bake Off winner Frances QuinnFlyte and Bear’s Den. Meanwhile, the band have also been busy teaching their fans how to cook their way through lockdown and popped by Camden Brewery’s Virtual Pub.

The single slots in seamlessly following the bands previous release this year, ‘We Don’t Need Each Other’. The notion of love ending blurs between the two songs, moving now onto the knowledge that the relationship is over. Singer, Abi Woodman, expresses herraw vocal talent with an upbeat summery beat that echoes her happiness to be getting away from what once caused her pain. She says of the track, “I’m not one to stick around in an unhappy relationship. I can’t help but think that a lot of us are probably stuck in a situation we’d rather not be in. It took me a while, but when I realised my self-worth my expectations became higher. Following my heart and finding freedom and happiness is something I will never regret. This led me to writing It’s Over. For a change I wanted to make an upbeat, happy sounding song about a breakup. Because sometimes it’s the best thing that can happen to you.”

MarthaGunn consists of five best friends – Abi, Max, Humphrey, Ally and Frankie. They take inspiration from the likes of Fleetwood Mac and Haim. In 2019, they covered the length and breadth of the UK on their first headline tour, were hand-picked by Steven Knight to play Peaky Blinder’s Festival, and made appearances at the likes of The Great EscapeBushstock, and Citadel Festival. The band have also garnered support from John Kennedy at Radio X and performed at his X-Posure Live summer and winter parties.
