DEAP LIPS – Self-titled album out now along with new video for “The Pusher”
Deap Lips, the collaborative album between California Rock & Roll duo Deap Vally (Lindsey Troy & Julie Edwards) and Oklahoma psych-heroes The Flaming Lips (Wayne Coyne & Steven Drozd) is out now, released Friday 13th.
To celebrate, the first official video is also available, a cover of the Steppenwolf classic “The Pusher”. Watch the video HERE. The track appears on the highly-anticipated album released today via Cooking Vinyl and follows the release of their first two singles “Hope Hell High”and “Home Thru Hell.”
“The Pusher is such a great, classic song”, says Troy. “So it was so fun to reimagine it with the Flaming Lips. It’s the ultimate stoner anthem.”
“So yeah.. we initially intended it (our cover version of the song ) for a Miley Cyrus project,” says Coyne. “Where she covered American songwriters that were kind of country and kind of weirdo.. so this great Hoyt Axton song seems like it might fit the bill. It turned into a beautiful, menacing, throbbing track that was searching for the right singer… luckily as our collaboration with the Deap Vally group progressed we presented it to them (Julie n Lindsey) and took to it immediately and, in my opinion, made it a classic revamp of a classic song ..”
