PIZZAGIRL travels to a clandestine party on the Space Coast on taut art-rock jam ‘cape canaveral’, out now via Heist or Hit (Her’s, Brad Stank)

Plays debut US shows at SXSW in March

Liverpool’s Pizzagirl releases new single ‘cape canaveral’ via HeistorHit (Her’s, Nature TV, Guest Singer), a taut art-rock jam that builds into the soundtrack for an offbeat party scene.

Uncharacteristically restrained, ‘cape canaveral’ channels the wiry, agitated style of David Byrne in its depiction of an archetypal fugitive character; undercover and underground, cruising towards a surreptitious gathering on the Space Coast. Calling to mind modern indie figures in TheWhitestBoyAlive or Phoenix too with its guitar-led groove, it’s a further example of Pizzagirl, AKA LiamBrown, stylistically breaking beyond the bedroom-pop confines of his self-coined Beatzerria. With a renewed focus on writing songs with his trusty guitar (‘Denise’), and joined now onstage by a live band, the newest chapter in his still young career is brimming with confidence.

It’s only been 3 months since he last put out any music, but this is a relative age in Pizzagirl years, given his self-sustained prolific approach to releases, as he recognises….

“Sorry for not replying to ur last message just been having my beauty sleep for a coupla months 🙂 I know it’s been a while but there’s a lil party in cape canaveral I heard about! I’d love to see you there if you’re still interested ? speak soon xx”

‘cape canaveral’ follows a first act resoundingly closed by acclaimed debut album ‘first timer’, which was a technicolour triumph in pulling together the threads of musical and pop-culture references he had absorbed in his formative years of artistic expression. Creating a sound, style and aesthetic that is resolutely his own, the Pizzagirl world is now fully established, for Liam to explore and pull stories from.

For the first time he’ll be taking his live show stateside for SXSW. One part cheesy rock-show, one party indie-disco and one part demob happy TV presenter veering dangerously off-script, his emotive, infectious bedroom-pop tracks are delivered precisely in between bouts of zany stage chat.

Champions of Pizzagirl are many and varied – from national broadsheets in The Guardian or The Sunday Times, pop-culture touchstones in Noisey (Vice), i-D, Clash and Highsnobiety as well as cutting edge indie stalwarts NME,DIY, DORK and The Line of Best Fit. Radio wise too DJs are lining up to call themselves fans, the UK’s most trusted ears in Annie Mac, Jack Saunders and Huw Stephens at BBCRadio 1 and Lauren Laverne, Shaun Keaveny and Radcliffe & Maconie at BBC 6 Music all backing his tracks. This, as well as a well-attended UK and European tour, including a sold-out debut London headliner at the end of last year, has stoked a momentum which isn’t slowing down anytime soon.

‘cape canaveral’ is out now via Heist or Hit , releasedon February 19th ahead of Pizzagirl’s appearance at SXSW in Austin.
