Totorro return to headline Portals Festival 2020 + 13 more bands announced

Portals Festival likes to think outside the box. Just because a band aren’t active doesn’t rule them out from playing at the festival!

2019 saw the return of Mclusky, who reformed especially to play the festival. 2020 sees the return of Totorro, a band who have been dormant since their last gig at the inaugural edition of Portals Festival back in 2018.

The French math-rock heroes will perform only one UK gig in 2020 and that will be to headline the main stage at Portals Festival on Saturday 6th June. Those who attended the band’s first set at the festival will no doubt have happy memories of singing along to those infectious hooks, dancing like no one is watching, and the longest conga line the Dome has ever seen!

We Lost The Sea are coming to the UK for the first time!

Also announced are Australian post-rock legends We Lost The Sea, who will be performing in the UK for the first time ever this summer. Their new album Triumph & Disaster has won plaudits from the alternative music press as a masterpiece in finely crafted conceptual songwriting and crushing walls of noise.

Portals x Holy Roar stage

Portals are also collaborating with Holy Roar Records for a Portals x Holy Roar stage in the Boston Music Room on the Sunday of the festival. The lineup for that stage includes OHHMSWe Never Learned To LiveBoss Keloid and Modern Rituals with more yet to be announced.

8 more bands in first announcement

Other bands in the first announcement include American math-rock 2-piece Standards, British math-rock stalwarts Alpha Male Tea Party, 16-piece chamber orchestra Human Pyramids (masterminded by Paul Russel of Axes fame), Scottish post-rock songstresses Midas Fall, noisy Manchester trio False Advertising, London post-rock quintet Flies Are Spies From Hell, alt-noise-psych-rock quartet Elevant and Bristol experimental/alt-math rising stars No Violet.

With 21 more artists still to be announced, 2020 looks set to be the best edition of Portals Festival yet!
