It’s that time once again, as the countdown to the end of 2019 rapidly approaches and we somehow end this decade- we take a personal look back on familiar names, features and musicians’ best releases of the past 12 months. In what has been another crazy year filled with plenty of highs and lows- it’s the releases that have once again pulled a lot of people through the year.
Now in it’s 9th year, we let our favourites take over the site to tell us the records that have made their end of year lists. Telling us their most loved events/gigs and what we can look forward to from them next year.
Our next take-over comes from another new label established earlier in the year and one that we are in awe with. We hand over the site to Jason of Dowd Records. You may be familiar with this name, as we were raving about the collective back in September, promoting their release collaboration with Byre. Dowd Records is a collective of musicians, artists, designers, skateboarders and music fans and we know they deserve all of your attention. We find out more about their year in music….
Top 5 releases of the year
Beautiful Dudes – Radio
The first track “The Shape I’m In” is brilliant and the whole album follows suit. This is just great rock n’ roll.
TLA – New Language
I really believe the songs on this EP touch the zeitgeist. The originality in how familiar element are used is so awesome.
Hunting Memories
There is so much depth to this album that you might miss on one listen. Sit with it and you will be rewarded!
The Cry – Beautiful Reasons
Bringing this album to vinyl has been a true honor!

Not sure if it qualifies as a gig but… Iron Maiden – Up The Irons!!!
Label Highlights of your year
Dowd Records is six months old and putting out four incredible albums on vinyl as well as already having ten artists with new music coming out in the first part of 2020 is a highlight we are so proud of!
Best discovery this year
Prism Tats. I love his stuff! The new singles he has been putting out this year are incredible.
Artist/Band to watch for 2020
The Cry – Their new music is so good it’s crazy. Their first LP in 30 years will really show they are at the top of their game.
TLA – the New Language EP is amazing but is just a warm up for this band. I’ve already heard some new tracks. Just wait and see!
Beautiful Dudes – this is a band that has rock and roll in their blood and I can’t wait to see what they do in 2020.
Foliage – This band is on a roll. I have loved everything they have done so far and excited to see what they put out after their releases and shows this year.
SoloS – The new songs they have coming out are so creative and catchy you just can’t ignore them!
Casual Fog – Casual Fog overflows with creativity and the new LP coming out in 2020 is holding nothing back. It will be ah-may-zing!!
Plans for the New Year
The new year means new music. SoloS, Shasta, TLA, The Cry, Hot Summer, Casual Fog, EV Kain and more! Dowd has so many releases planned for the first part of 2020 it will blow your mind.
