ADWAITH
Win Welsh Music Prize 2019
For their debut album ‘Melyn‘ on Libertino Records
Welsh-language post-punk trio Adwaith have won the Welsh Music Prize 2019 for their debut album Melyn.
With the prize in its 9th year, the Carmarthen band comprised of Hollie Singer, Gwenllian Anthony and Heledd Owen follow in the footsteps of previous prize winners Gruff Rhys, Gwenno and Boy Azooga in lifting the award.
Announcing the winner at The Coal Exhange, Cardiff, Welsh radio DJ Huw Stephens said, “Adwaith have made a real impact with their personal, beautiful music that captures what it’s like to be young, female, frustrated and bewildered at the world we live in.”
Their latest Double A-Side single Orange Sofa / Byd Ffug was released last week, offering a pair of blustery autumnal anthems that leave the listener eagerly anticipating the future follow up to ‘Melyn’ with giddy, bated breath.
