EAD WOOD
Bristol psych-pop artist drops ‘Skin’ via Leisure Records
Single release show on 5th December at The Exchange, Bristol
Bristol’s Ead Wood is back with another breezy, kaleidoscopic slice of sun-dappled psych-pop. ‘Skin’ is out 28th November via Leisure Records.
After this summer’s single ‘Plum Cake’, ‘Skin’ adds grit and guts to Ead Wood’s shimmering guitars and is an ode to the thing that unites us all: skin. But despite its relaxed demeanor, ‘Skin’ grapples with anxieties just below its surface.
Ead Wood aka Ed Soles, elaborates: “After feeling insecure due to a skin condition that had knocked my confidence. ‘Skin’ was written as an ego boost and as a realisation that it doesn’t matter what we look like, we all have skin and it all looks different.”
With a surface that is seemingly bright and colourful, Bristol’s Ead Wood always has more than meets the eye. Started by Ed Soles as a solo project during his uni years, Ead Wood first unveiled himself back in 2016 via debut EP ‘Vista’.
From the off, Ead Wood effortlessly blended psychedelia, with laid back surf shimmers but always with an underlying depth or angst. His crisp, lo-fi sound always has a certain sheen, but at is core is weird, wonderful and totally unique.
The project blossomed with the next handful of singles including ‘Ignored’, ‘Oceans’ and this year’s ‘Plum Cake’ – grabbing the attention of Clash Magazine, DIY, The Line of Best Fit and many others. Ead Wood also bolstered the band during the release of his ‘Beige Dreams’ EP last year with help from his friends Margot – who perform under nom-de-riff The Heights both on the EP.
Since then Ead Wood has become a potent live force, the woozy tunes brought hypnotically to life by Ed and his backing band. It’s seen Ead Wood tour around Europe, as well as playing this year’s Glastonbury Festival. He’s also supported the likes of The Stroppies, Lazy Day, Juniore and Olden Yolk.
Ead Wood will be launching ‘Skin’ with a one off show at The Exchange in Bristol on 5th Decemeber. Find tickets here.
