Fresh from being hand selected to support Ed Sheeran at Chantry Park this summer, Suffolk alt-pop artist Bessie Turner has released her new single ‘Down 2’

Tickets for Bessie’s headline show at Folklore, London on Wednesday 4th December are on sale now.

12 months ago Bessie Turner was riding the crest of a wave after headlining BBC Introducing stages at Latitude and Reading & Leeds festivals and garnering over a million streams with singles ‘Nino’ and ‘Words You Say’. Then in early 2019 she was rushed into hospital with sepsis and nearly died.

A return to health and to music, dreamily melancholic, ‘Down 2’ reamplifies Bessie’s dynamic song-writing prowess. Her new single is a refreshingly relatable indie pop ode to the messy realities of unrequited love – equal parts joyous and heart-breaking, straight from the heart.

“‘Down 2’ is a kind of angry love song. It’s about wanting someone to give a shit but also wanting the opposite of that. The conflict of greedy emotions; you’re totally down and miserable when they’re around, but you also want them there because you realise that the problem might be a bit more deep rooted – and maybe you’re just totally fucking miserable when you’re on your own. It’s about internal feelings more than anything, the juxtaposition of knowing your worth but also not having enough self-respect to even make your bed when you get out of it. It’s about the fear of being on your own. It’s about using people for own gain. It’s about distractions. It’s about that whole bodily feeling you get when you think you’ve done something wrong, and you feel like you’re about to be sick.” Bessie offers on the single.

This summer saw Bessie play Live At Leeds, Victorious and Dot To Dot festivals, as well as being chosen to support Ed Sheeran at his homecoming show at Chantry Park.  She will be performing at Iceland Airwaves and a host of other festivals around the UK later this year, as well as headlining Folklore, London on December 4th.
