Souvenirs Share New Single “When The Bloom Fades”
Available Everywhere via Other People Records
Souvenirs have returned with a brand new single, “When The Bloom Fades,” available to stream everywhere from Other People Records. Led by vocalist/guitarist Tim Riley, the California-based band are gearing up for a busy 2020 and the vibrant new single provides a taste of more new music to come.
“When The Bloom Fades” is the first new music from Souvenirs since their 2018 full-length, Posture of Apology. The track picks up where that album left off, taking the band’s ’90s emo indebted sound and expanding it with washes of shimmering guitar and propulsive drums–expertly captured by producer/engineer Cory Coffman of Gleemer. Riley’s lyrics offer a balance between intensely personal and highly universal, on “When The Bloom Fades” he explores the creeping existential dread that hovers just beneath our awareness and the ever-present fear of losing the ones we love.
Riley explains, “‘When The Bloom Fades’ is about mortality. This was one of those songs that just came together and I didn’t really know what it meant to me until it was finished. I was going through some of the darkest times of my life and some days it felt like the only thing that kept me going was my dog Wendy. I started to think about how the life span of a dog is a quarter of what ours are and it terrified me. My favorite line in the song is ‘now everything that I see is grey’ because Wendy sheds a ton and it gets on everything. Some people tell me they could never handle a dog that sheds and I just laugh. They probably have never felt like a dog saved them from the depths of depression. This ones for you Wendy pup.”
