Sive returns with idiosyncratic new single Oh Mother!
Idiosyncratic alt-folk artist Sive returns with her most significant release to date. Oh Mother is out now via Veta Records.
A personal response to a universal issue, Oh Mother reflects the helplessness and guilt Sive – aka Sadhbh O’Sullivan – and many others feel in the face of what’s happening to the planet. “With this song, I wanted to give voice to those feelings that so many of us are experiencing,” Sadhbh explains, “but also to use imagery that invokes some of the reasons why this home is worth saving.”
Oh Mother encapsulates the poignant message of the song by combining rich, haunting tones with Sadhbh’s beguiling voice to create a sound that is truly otherworldly. Sive’s signature abstract songwriting style is both distinctive and powerful, reminiscent of the likes of Jesca Hoop and This Is The Kit.
Having spent a decade honing her craft independently, sharing stages with the likes of Lisa Hannigan, Cathy Davey, Mick Flannery, Christy Moore and Gemma Hayes along the way, Sive struck up a relationship with the team at Veta Records (HAVVK, Maria Kelly) in 2018. She began working with label manager and her now co-producer Matt Harris to develop a sound that truly reflected the message in her songs, and the singles they have released together have garnered praise from the likes of Nialler9, Earmilk, Hot Press and Folk Radio UK to name a few.
