ÓLAFUR ARNALDS

ANNOUNCES DELUXE EDITION OF BESTSELLING ALBUM

‘re:member’

DELUXE BOX SET RELEASED ON MERCURY KX: 6TH DECEMBER 2019

Following the success of his critically-acclaimed album ‘re:member’ and global tour, Icelandic composer, musician and producer Ólafur Arnalds announces the release of the special deluxe edition of his 2018 release, re:member, with 4 LPs featuring brand new arrangements and live reworks. British vocal group VOCES8 perform stunning choral arrangements of tracks ‘momentary’, ‘partial’ and ‘nyepi’, recorded specially for this project.

Included in the release is an exclusive LP of new material, consisting of meditative extended sonic textures played on his patented Stratus Pianos, two self-playing, semi-generative player pianos. The release also includes a photobook from Ólafur’s 140+ date global re:member tour and four limited-edition prints. The project is released on Mercury KX on 6th December 2019.

The latest in a series of live videos commemorating the end of Ólafur’s re:member tour continues with ‘ypsilon’, out today. Ólafur explains its significance: “ypsilon is one of those songs that really changed when we started rehearsing for the live show. The live setting gave me the room I needed to play around with it and let it expand to become something wholly different.”

Ólafur will take over Southbank Centre on November 8 for his festival OPIA which will see Ólafur joined by special guests including Grandbrothers, Rhye, Poppy Ackroyd and Josin to name a few. They will occupy the Southbank Centre into the late evening, filling every hall, nook and cranny with performances from artists at the cutting edge of contemporary music. Ólafur chose to name the festival to reflect the closeness of the creative community to which these artists belong, with the word OPIA taken from film-maker John Koenig’s Dictionary of Obscure Sorrows to describe ‘the ambiguous intensity of looking someone in the eye’.

Internationally celebrated for his haunting musical style, Ólafur captivatingly combines elements of ambient, classical, electronic and even elements of pop and rock. re:member follows the success of his innovative musical project Island Songs (2016). Ólafur has also been praised for extensive soundtrack work, more recently composing the score for ITV’s Broadchurch, for which he won the 2014 BAFTA for Best Original Music.
