The NPR and 6 Music-approved Honduran-Canadian artist and producer, Daniela Andrade, is today sharing the swooning new cut, ‘Wet Dreams’ – listen here. Co-produced by Toronto’s Gray Rowan (Charlotte Day Wilson, The WAYO), the new single is the first to be lifted from Andrade’s forthcoming EP, ‘Tamale’ which is set for release later this autumn, more details to follow shortly.
‘Wet Dreams’ finds Andrade cathartically exploring themes of misplaced love and longing via scintillating downtempo electronic textures akin to the sounds of Shura, Kali Uchis and BANKS. “Wet Dreams” is about longing for someone you think you’re not supposed to long for,” says Daniela. “I remember feeling so confused during puberty and then having these vivid dreams. A lot of things stem from that time period for me. Dissecting it and placing it in a song like this now feels really good.”
As a child of first-generation immigrants, Daniela, who has previously collaborated with the likes of Ryan Hemsworth, S. Carey (Bon Iver) and Swim Good, draws inspiration from her cultural heritage of Honduras, the home of both her parents. Andrade initially found success via YouTube where she picked up a swathe of online support before securing syncs deals (Suits, 2018 Winter Olympics), however, where she once performed covers, Daniela is now asserting her status with original music – something she writes, produces, and mixes – initially making her first foray with the Shore EP.
The 2016 Shore EP found Daniela selling-out world tours, securing support at the likes of NYLON, NPR and Hypebeast, as well as spots across Spotify’s ‘All New Indie’ and ‘New Music Friday’ playlists. 2019 has found Andrade adding glimmers of jazz-indebted soul and R&B to her back catalogue with ‘Polly Pocket’ and ‘Genesis’, the forthcoming Tamale EP release looks to delve further in that direction and will be followed with world tour dates, these to be announced shortly.
