Less than 10 months on from the release of the successful and ambitious debut album‘Melyn’, South Wales trio Adwaith are back with a Double A-Side single ‘Wine Time / Hey!’,firmly setting the foundations for the next exciting chapter.
Having spent the past two years touring intensely with Gwenno, The Joy Formidable, Gruff Rhys and playing spots at festivals such as Latitude and Green Man, Adwaith relished the quiet months at the beginning of this year to work on new material. Writing sessions took place between London, Cardiff and the rural tranquility of Taliaris, Carmarthenshire, where they had space to explore and flesh out their sound.
Today, the release of a new Double A-Side single reintroduces us, in brash technicolour, to this chameleon-like band. Where ‘Hey!’ (directed by Lleucu Non Roberts) is a song dealing directly with the inability of global leaders to tackle the climate crisis, ‘Wine Time’ (directed by The Shoot) redirects the band’s gaze inwards towards the personal.
As guitarist and vocalist Holly Singer explains, “‘Wine Time’ is about falling for an extremely self destructive person and the realisation that no matter how hard you try you cannot save a person if they don’t want to save themselves.”
