“Tootie” is the latest single from James Levy’s album Somebody, which will be released on September 13, 2019 (track listing below) by Innit Recordings/The Orchard. The track was produced by Paul Defiglia (Avett Brothers) and recorded in Nashville with local musicians, including Mickey Raphael (Willie Nelson).

Tootie follows the release of “NYC (feat. Mickey Raphael),” which premiered on Wide Open Country and was named last week by Rolling Stone Country as “one of the 10 Best Country and Americana Songs To Hear Now.” Levy also released “What Do I Know” and “Songs of Love” from the record.

According to Levy: “Tootie is a song about looking back at a relationship and youth and only seeing the normal, mundane things.  None of the lows, none of the highs. The mundane things are the things that I remember and cherish most. The Postman, Chinese delivery, giving kids candy on Halloween, daily conversation with the neighbor, deciding on the right plant like the world depends on it,  The head on shoulder, the summer heat with no AC. To know that it is all fleeting, and to realize that you have to live in the present, in the way that you idealize the past.”

Levy worked with Julian CasablancasColdplay and Tim Wheeler of Ash on his last two records. He wrote songs with Zoe KravitzJordan Lane Price, Zuri MarleyThe Pierces and currently is working in Nashville writing with multiple artists. His next EP is being produced by Richard Gottehrer.

Levy’s collaborations with Charles Bradley on “Lucifer” and “Lonely as You Are” are out now and has received critical acclaim.
