Amsterdam musician, artist and film-maker Someone releases her Orbit EP via [PIAS] Recordings alongside Augmented Reality feature

Amsterdam artist Someone, AKA Tessa Rose Jackson, releases her stunning new multi-media EP Orbit via [PIAS]Recordings. Six tracks of infectious psych-pop, equally indebted to TameImpala, Arthur Russell or early 90s French electronica pioneers Air, there’s more to the release than the music.

Whilst the artistic undertaking around her debut EP Chain Reaction (creating a short film for each track on the record) was already ambitious, the project around Orbit is nudged up a level. Tessahas created an interactive Augmented Reality exhibition that combines Someone’s music with cutting edge technology and hypnotic art.

Debuting to great acclaim at Eurosonic earlier in the year, the exhibition will tour gallery spaces in AmsterdamLondonBerlin and Paris. The walls lined with abstract works of art, all using elements reminiscent of space and planets. When viewed through a tablet or phone the artworks come to life, and the song linked to that piece will start playing through the visitor’s headphones. The pieces each react differently to the music, dynamically building as the songs progress, reacting also to touch from the viewer on their tablet screens, allowing full interaction and immersion.

This exhibition will also be available in fans’ own homes, available to purchase as a set of artistic postcards that similarly react to the app.

The graphics tie into Someone’s exhilarating live show as well. Her set at Eurosonic was a highlight for NME, and will be taken on tour through the Netherlands and France to celebrate the release of the EP.

The EP uses the metaphor of orbiting planets to comment on our overstimulated generation. It suggests that in spending so much time on our phones and social media, being constantly exposed to external distractions, we are ’orbiting’ around each other and our passions, rarely actually touching, resting, focusing long enough to truly connect.

Orbit is out via [PIAS] Recordings on May 1st.
