MONEY FOR ROPE
MELBOURNE GARAGE-ROCKERS ANNOUNCE SUMMER UK/EU TOUR
INCLUDING LONDON SHOW (23/05) & DOT TO DOT FESTIVAL
NEW ALBUM ‘PICTURE US’ – OUT NOW
Having spent the last four years bringing their raucous garage-punk to stages across the UK, US, Europe, Australia and even India – including a tour with close friend Courtney Barnett alongside stops at SXSW, Glastonbury and Primavera – Melbourne outfit Money For Rope are set to return to the UK and Europe across May & June for a run of headline dates in support of their second full-length, ‘Picture Us’, which is out now via Cheersquad Records and available to stream here.
As part of a wider 17 date European tour, Money For Rope are back on UK shores next month for a run of shows at Dot To Dot Festival as well as a headliner at London’s Boston Music Room on May 23, 2019. The Aussie five-piece have picked up a notorious reputation for their riotous live performances, and these dates will be the first opportunity to witness their fuzzed-out hedonism in all it’s glory since the release of the new record: an urgent, fun-as-hell collection of freewheeling garage-psych and slacked-out surf-rock goodness. The full list of tour dates can be found below.
Spawned from the same music
scene that has fostered not only Courtney Barnett but also the likes of King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, The Goon Sax, Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever and Amyl & The Sniffers,
Money For Rope are another frontrunner of the ever-fruitful Aussie guitar scene and ‘Picture Us’ gives a perfect insight into what to expect from their exuberant live shows. Guitars veer from jangly surf-pop
bliss to full-on fuzz freak-outs while Jules McKenzie’s vocals are delivered with a playful sardonic wit – all this held together by the pummeling rhythm section of not one but two drummers, seldom easing the pace across the album’s lean 30 minutes.
Money For
Rope is comprised of Jules McKenzie (guitars, vocals), Rick Parnaby (keyboards), Erik Scerba (drums), Chris Loftis (drums), Ted Dempsey (bass) and, true to their DIY ethos, ‘Picture Us’ was recorded, produced and mastered by the band
themselves in a beach house next to the Southern Ocean over the course of a single summer. Their sunny coastal surroundings are certainly borne out in the music and these live shows, arriving at the tail-end of May and early June, might just be the perfect
fix to drag us crashing into Summer.
