Just over two weeks from the release of their new album Plastic Anniversary, inimitable duo Matmos have released two videos for album tracks “Thermoplastic Riot Shield” and “Breaking Bread.”
“Thermoplastic Riot Shield” centers around the track’s main inspiration and sound source, a police riot shield. Matmos challenge the viewer’s assumptions with actors in
“Breaking Bread” was animated and directed by Robert Syrett, and points to the album’s focus on environmental destruction. The track was formed using samples of smashed LPs by the band Bread at the WFMU record fair.
Plastic Anniversary was crafted as the duo celebrated their 25th anniversary as musical collaborators and as a couple. The sounds used on the album were crafted using exclusively plastic objects, from the riot shield and broken LPs of these two tracks to synthetic human fat, a silicone gel implant, giant waste containers and much more.
Matmos will be playing a show in Brooklyn at Pioneer Works on 4 April along with Keith Fullerton Whitman ahead of their European tour later in June.
