New video ‘Barely Breathing’ out now
London’s newest dream-pop sensation Circe has released her stunning new video for ‘Barely Breathing’, celebrated with an intimate showcase at Hackney’s Paper Dress Vintage.
Led by an icy, ethereal voice and a penchant for the mystical Circe combines dark dramatic lyrics, brooding soundscapes
“The sea became a metaphor for my mental state at the time.” She tells us, “The mercurial nature of the sea and its intrinsic dichotomy of pleasure and danger was like a mirror for my overactive romantic imagination. Ultimately the song is a tonic for feverish despair. I think there is an army behind every heart break. In my case the army is my instruments and the song is an emotional battle rather than a loss.”
The track was produced by Blood Red Shoes’ Steve Ansell and it’s accompanied by a beautifully theatrical video that sits somewhere between
Taking her name from the Greek goddess of magic, Circe was immediately drawn to the characters passion and eccentricities; “Circe encapsulated everything I was feeling as I began writing. I was enraptured by the tales I read of powerful, mystical, she can turn men who have betrayed or hurt her into pigs, but what resonated with me most was her unusual vulnerability and humility that got her thrown out of the house of gods.”
Already turning heads on the London live circuit, as well as earning the praise of 6 Music’s Steve Lamacq and Tom Robinson, Circe is a dreamy, dramatic, soundtrack of a sacred heart.
