Sea Cycles have returned with a dynamic new single premiering now on Post-Trash. Available everywhere on Friday, January 11th, via Other People Records, “Quota” is a soaring cut of cloudy synths and velvet vocals, offering a glimpse of what’s to come from the Jacksonville, FL four-piece in 2019. Post-Trash praised the track, saying, “There’s windswept synths that whir back and forth in delicate layers, spiraling guitars pulled gently into easy vibing melodies, and vocals that swoon and croon just above everything” and adding, “Sea Cycles are offering a more immediate sound while stay true to their expansive roots.”

A lot has changed since the release of Sea Cycles‘ 2015 LP, Ground & Air, (an album that won praise from the likes of SPIN and Noisey), most notably, the addition of vocalist/multi-instrumentalist, Colin Adkins. Adkins shines on “Quota” with his distinctive voice and undeniable melodies melting into the track’s sprawling sound and providing a hook-focused contrast to the band’s sonic experimentation. Lyrically, “Quota” finds Adkins opening up about the guilt and frustration of trying to find time for the ones we love in a society focused on work. Adkins explains, “It’s about overworking ourselves to the point of being a completely absent friend, family member and lover. And indirectly about American work culture, money anxieties, fear of missing out, and questioning whether the work ethic stems from healthy ambition or a distraction from whatever ails you.” 

Sea Cycles start a run of U.S. East Coast tour dates next week. The band will be supporting Polyenso and joined by Millennium Youth and FR33DBACK, see full itinerary below.
