Circuit Sweet Interview, Feature, News

December 29, 2018

It’s that time once again, as the countdown to the end of 2018 rapidly approaches we take a personal look back on familiar names, features and musicians’ best releases of the past 12 months. In what has been another crazy year of highs and lows- it’s the releases that have pulled a lot of people through the year. Now in it’s 8th year, Circuit Sweet will be hosting takeovers from the featured artists/musicians/labels and promoters of the site with their personal top releases of the year.

Kick starting our annual end of year tradition; we let our favourites take over the site to tell us the records that have made their end of year lists. Telling us their favourite events/gigs and what we can look forward to from them next year.

Following our first part special speaking with Rémy of the incredible duo La Jungle, we return to the final part where we hand the site over to Mat– guitarist/keys/vocals. Described as a duo with six strings and four barrels in deeptrance– they create unruly math rock. Mat to discover more about his last 12 months in music and memorable releases on his playlist…

1 / Riddles by Ed Schrader Music Beat (US)

They promote a gig in Baltimore for my other band Petula Clarck during a US Tour, back in 2012.I’ve discovered their music during the show they played this night. Soooooo cool. Two guy, one floor tom, one bass.

2 / ‘>>>’ by Beak> (UK)

They have their own universe. I like to play in it.

3 / Joy as an act of resistance by Idles (UK)

Message in a bottle for everyone.

4 / Dubs Vol. 01 by Proven Recording (Colin Langenus) (US)

As Colin says on his bandcamp :This may or may not be a collection of New Dubs coming out of a Brooklyn studio. It may or may not be one band on every song. It might be 50 people. It may have been produced by one man, or by a collective. It might have been made in one day 30 years ago in Europe or somewhere, or over the last year nearby. “

5 / Superior State by Rendez-vous (FR)

A new post-punk taste candy bar ready to eat.
