Shares new single, “Music Machine”

New album, Pink Is The Colour Of Unconditional Love
Due 1st June on Captured Tracks

Australia’s sweetheart, Gabriella Cohen, returns with her second album, Pink Is The Colour Of Unconditional Loveand shares new single, “Music Machine“.

She says of the song, “‘Music Machine’ was born about the time when I came back from my first U.S tour and found myself down and out crashing on a friends couch in West Brunswick, Melbourne. It was a strange patch of time, where I felt comically displaced, coming from the glitz and glamour of New York straight to desolate suburbia and Centrelink queues.

“Maybe it was the weather, or the jet lag, but in that short time I felt drugged, hazy; I got lost far too many times on bike paths, dry gusty December heat blowing me through parks and scrubland…. In my delirium, I went on my first Tinder date and, thank g-d, because I made a very good friend who led me to a farmhouse where I would record Pink Is The Colour Of Unconditional Love. All in all, “Music Machine” was written out of a delirious boredom, and in turn became a song I’m grateful to have written.”

On Pink Is The Colour… Cohen pays homage to her musical influences by inviting the listener on a journey: from the grooves of bossa nova, to the lilting sentimentality of strings, to kicking it back on the sprawling highways of rock ‘n’ roll. Honest heartache is woven into glory throughout the record, and during eleven tracks a candid, almost ethereal self-portrait of its songwriter emerges. For Gabriella Cohen, it’s an epitaph of electric wonder, and a definitive fact: Pink is the Colour of Unconditional Love.

Cohen moved to a farm in countryside Victoria, Australia in summer of 2017 to record and self-produce the album with engineer and partner-in-crime, Kate “Babyshakes” Dillon. There, amidst flocks of screeching white cockatoos and herds of Black Angus cows, they etched the beginning of Pink Is The Colour Of Unconditional Love. The record was almost complete when the band was invited to join Foxygen’s US tour, compelling the girls to finish the album on the road. Armed with a microphone and an interface, Dillon and Cohen captured the final touches of the album on a boat in England, and the coast of Portugal; in the mountains of Southern Italy, cafes of Mexico, and finally in Venice Beach, Los Angeles.

Throughout the new album Cohen (flanked by a choir of imaginary dolls that exist in her head) creates complex and sugary backing vocals. These signature vocal arrangements – contoured with classic harmonies and nostalgic melodies – form songs remarkable in their originality.

Gabriella Cohen struck gold with the release of her internationally acclaimed debut record Full Closure and No Details in 2016. After extensively touring the album worldwide, fans and industry alike embraced the dreamy, fuzz-soaked popscapes produced by Cohen and long-time collaborator, Kate Dillon. The Guardian praised the debut: “Seductive, broody and occasionally sinister,” while it drew four-star reviews from MOJO, UNCUT and Q Magazine.

Cohen is renowned for her performances, and for her magnetic presence captivating audiences into a still surrender. To launch her debut album, she rocked back-to-back tours in the USA, EU, AUS and UK, appearing at hallmark events such as SXSW, BIGSOUND,and Vida Festival (SPN). Cohen has shared the bill with musical heavyweights The Flaming Lips, Marlon Williams, and Rodrigo Amarante, and continues to effortlessly romance audiences worldwide.
