“There is a synthesis of aural texture and melodic sensibility that is so compelling it verges on hypnotic”  – The Age / SMH
Following the release of last years luscious single “Alibi“, dream pop makers Lowtide have now returned with their second single “Elizabeth Tower”  taken from their much-anticipated upcoming second album, Southern Mind, due out on 16 February via Opposite Number (pre-order here http://bit.ly/2o9oN8e).

Lowtide have carved out an aural signature for themselves within the Melbourne music sphere – one that is characterised by pop-laden harmonies, shot through the middle with melancholy, hypnotic vocal work. Premiered by Australian radio-royalty Zan Rowe on Double J, “Elizabeth Tower” is an expansive, heavily textured, glittering foray into the band’s evolving sound.

The single release is accompanied by a new video which was premiered by RUSSH Magazine, who said it was; “like perfectly faded photographs from an old album on your parents’s bookcase… all muted colours and nostalgic longing“. Director Jamieson Moorewas able to capture the yearning, heady energy of “Elizabeth Tower” by piecing together archival footage of Melbourne, unearthed from deep within the homemade, forgotten documentaries of aspiring filmmaker Mervyn Thomas. Moore explains: “His focus on intimate moments and interactions with people, details of light and colour, landscape and nature is so special. So of course, Lowtide and I decided to celebrate Merv’s passion with a dedication to his work”.
Highly celebrated for their dreamy soundscapes, Lowtide have recently embarked on Australian and UK/EU tours, played several festivals including End Of The Road in the UK and NZ’s Camp A Low Hum, been nominated for The AMP (Australian Music Prize) and have received international support via BBC 6 Music, Henry Rollins (KCRW)UncutClashLine of Best Fit and more.
Now, following their recent signing to Rice Is Nice in Australia and Opposite Number in the UK, Lowtide are currently gearing up to release their much anticipated second album Southern Mind, due out on 16 February. Recorded at The Aviary Studios in Victoria in the winter of 2017, Southern Mind takes on the theme of “South” and “Southern”. It’s a startlingly stunning album, bursting with ambition and tension, loud yet restrained, from a band with the elegance and passion to create something truly remarkable.
Fueling further excitement and anticipation, long-time supporter Henry Rollins will be premiering Southern Mind in its entirety, live on his acclaimed KCRW radio show, on Sunday February 11th, from 8pm-10pm LA time, or Monday February 12th, from 3pm-5pm Sydney time. Put it in your diary!
