It’s that time once again, as the countdown to the end of 2017 rapidly approaches we take a personal look back on familiar names, features and musicians’ best releases of the past 12 months. In what has been a crazy year of highs and lows it’s the releases that have pulled a lot of people through the year. Now in it’s 7th year, Circuit Sweet will be hosting takeovers from the featured artists/musicians/labels and promoters of the site with their personal top 5 releases of the year.
Continuing our annual end of year tradition we let our favourites take over the site to tell us the records that have made their end of year lists, their favourite events/gigs and what we can look forward to from them next year.
Our next take over comes from the boisterous Bristol trio Memory Of Elephants. Friends of the site, MOE have had a rewarding year with more live shows, incredible support slots across the UK and more festival appearances under their belt. We hand over to the band to find out more about Memory of Elephants year in music…

Best show you’ve played:
Getting to play with And So I Watch You From Afar and Gallops at Thekla in November was pretty special. The whole night was just insane. Packed out boat from the word go and everything went suspiciously well for our set. Definitely one of the best gigs we’ve ever played.
Best gig you’ve attended:
Amusement Parks On Fire at the Exchange – was pretty unbelievable seeing probably my favourite band of all time at the Exchange of all places, and getting to support them was an added bonus. Oathbreaker at 2000Trees Festival really blew me away – first time seeing them and it was so intense! As previously mentioned, ASIWYFA at Thekla and massive shout out to Body Hound at the Old England for the Wild-Beesley Fundraiser a few weeks ago – just ridiculous amounts of fun (Shuff even ended up in the back of an ambulance! He’s alright now though!)
Highlights of your year:
Supporting ASIWYFA, playing 2000Trees for the first time was huge, little tour with Chiyoda Ku & a-tota-so back in April, ArcTanGent is always amazing, Effigy Festival in Bristol was awesome (big up Miles for putting it together) and Primavera Festival for the first time was eye opening.
Artist/Band to watch for 2018:
We say it every year so Chiyoda Ku, obviously, but hopefully some new Amusement Parks On Fire is on the horizon!
Plans for New Year:
We’ve been working on it for a year and a half now so our debut album and supporting tour shouldn’t be too long….hopefully.
