It’s that time once again, as the countdown to the end of 2017 rapidly approaches we take a personal look back on familiar names, features and musicians’ best releases of the past 12 months. In what has been a crazy year of highs and lows it’s the releases that have pulled a lot of people through the year. Now in it’s 7th year, Circuit Sweet will be hosting takeovers from the featured artists/musicians/labels and promoters of the site with their personal top 5 releases of the year.
Continuing our annual end of year tradition we let our favourites take over the site to tell us the records that have made their end of year lists, their favourite events/gigs and what we can look forward to from them next year.
Our next take over comes from our good friend Marty best known for his work in Alright The Captain/ A-tota-so and his promotions company Buttonpusher. This year his musical efforts have been focussed on the progression of A-tota-so which has led to some mighty tours and an appearance at this years ArcTanGent, Marty has had a successful 2017. We hand over to find out which albums have shaped his year…
Chiyoda Ku – How it works
The boys can do no wrong, it’s been a tough old year for them with having all their belongings and van stolen but this album just proves that the boys are on top of their game at the moment, we had the pleasure of touring the UK and Europe with them this year so getting to see these songs live every night was a pleasure and I can’t wait to hear more.
This album is instantly addictive and it sounds the same live. Stefanie’s voice is so raw and powerful it just makes the album even more intense.
Gallops – Bronze Mystics
The soundtrack to countless messy nights over the year, it’s so good to have Gallops back in action again.
The Physics House Band – Mercury Fountain
This album finally got me into TPHB after too long not really paying them the attention they deserve and now there’s no going back! LOVE IT!
Alpha Male Tea Party – Health
A beautiful album from AMTP, it’s just full of awesome riffs! They played one of the most crazy shows we’ve had at JT Soar this year and i can’t wait to get them back again next year hopefully!
The best show we played this year was ArcTanGent, it came completely out of the blue for us as a-tota-so is such a New project so when we got the email asking us to play we were over the moon but had a lot of hard work ahead of us. We spent the months leading up to it writing and touring as much as we could to prepare for it. Definitely one of the most nervous shows I’ve played as we didn’t know what people would think of it as we’ve not really released anything yet and only have one song online. It went so well though and we were delighted with the turnout we had. Hopefully we’ll be back again sometime when we have the album out!
HIGHLIGHTS OF THE YEAR
Effigy and ArcTanGent in Bristol, a-tota-so tours with Lost Ground, Chiyoda Ku and Memory of Elephants and recording the a-tota-so album at nice weather for airstrikes Studios.
PLANS FOR 2018
We’ll be heading back to NWFA STUDIOS in January to mix the a-tota-so album which we’re dead excited about but we’ve no plans for the release yet so watch this space. Alright the Captain are slowly starting to write new material so who knows maybe some live shows before 2018 is out!
Also got loads of awesome bUTTONpUSHER shows lined up for the last Friday of each month at JT Soar and we’ll be kicking 2018 off with NO VIOLET on the last Friday of January and as always the shows are bring your own booze.
A huge thank you as ever to Marty and a huge thanks for all your hard work and continuing to bring excellent music together in whatever way you can! We can’t wait to see what 2018 brings and looking forward to more from a-tota-so and new material from ATC, we’ve missed you!
