ÁSGEIR TEAMS UP WITH INDEPENDENT RECORD STORE FOR RARE 7″ TREASURE HUNT
SHARES COVER OF TALLEST MAN ON EARTH’S ‘THERE’S NO LEAVING NOW’
The Sunday Times“Afterglow is an absolute treat for the ears, with chattering electronic melodies, glitchy stop-start sections, and warm synth swells.”
“This latest release looks to pave the way for global domination.”
“A taut and gleaming piece of electro-pop, R&B-smooth keys creating a reflective pool off which Ásgeir’s shimmering vocals bounce.”
Consequence of Sound
“There’s a tight-knit intimacy and soulfulness to the album that feels familial and warm, even as the music itself carries a glacial chill. There’s nothing conventional or expected about Afterglow, an album that submerges all ego and blissfully loses itself in oceanic imagery and crystalline soundscapes. At the same time, the songs are instantly familiar, like old friends, departed loves, or bittersweet remembrances.”
“Wonderful moments such as the chaotic creativity of “Here Comes The Wave In”, the bold ballad “New Day” and the elegiac “Hold”
“Asgeir became the toast of Iceland with his gorgeous debut album…he’s returning with an edgier, electronic element to his sound”
“Gorgeous trip-hop piece where he parallels the vocal stylings of Justin Vernon and the darkness of James Blake”
“An exciting example of what’s to come, the Icelandic superstar is set to go global.”
One of the tracks included on the rare 7” that’s up for grabs is a haunting cover of Tallest Man on Earth’s ‘There’s No Leaving Now’, which Ásgeir has shared today.
The prize, which also includes two tickets to Ásgeir’s almost sold out headline show at The Roundhouse (with support from hotly tipped Jagjaguwar-signed artist Gordi and other guests still to be announced), plus a sneak-preview of Ásgeir’s soundcheck before the show, will be hidden somewhere instore at a well-known record store in London. Clues have begun to be revealed on social media, and fans can follow what’s happening using the hashtag #asgeirstraighttovinyl.
Ásgeir is currently on tour throughout North America, including a stop at Austin City Limits Music Festival. The unique artist returned in May with second album ‘Afterglow’. The monumental record was a career-defining moment for the musician, who’s follow up to debut album ‘In The Silence’ was greatly anticipated by fans worldwide.
Ásgeir couldn’t have predicted such an enormous success off the back of his debut, coming from an Icelandic town of just 40 people, the artist is every bit as introverted and humble as he is talented. ‘In The Silence’ became the fastest selling debut EVER in Iceland, breaking all previous records and outselling both label-mate Björk and Sigur Ros by a long way – both huge Icelandic artists. Now, over 10% of the entire Icelandic population own the album. His sophomore album ‘Afterglow’ has already overtaken the previous album’s streaming stats by a country mile; praised by music critics and on constant rotation at BBC Radio 1 and 6Music, Radio X, Absolute and Virgin Radio.
