Introducing Fröst

Fröst is a collaboration between Franco-Swedish sound artist Johanna Bramli (vocalist for Stereolab offshoot Imitation Electric Piano) and Fujiya & Miyagi’s synth player and producer Steve Lewis. Combining their individual sounds they create a hypnotic blend of analogue synthesizer swells and sporadic percussion tracks that all present within subtle pop structures.

Their debut single ‘Crackling on the Wire’ championed by Edith Bowman as Record Of The Week on Virgin Radio and given high profile plays by Annie Mac (BBC Radio 1), Nemone and Gideon Coe (BBC 6 Music) as well as John Kennedy (Radio X). The single was also picked up by tastemakers such as Metro Music, CLASH and 1883 Magazine.

The follow up ‘Keratin’ is the second Fröst single released under the emerging record label Lost Room Records. Blending 80’s pop with ethereal and vocoded vocals against electronic beats, ‘Keratin’ is the lead track from a forthcoming new 4 track EP due for release in May.
Keratin takes us through a journey of sensations from the surface of our skin into the depth of our bones” – Fröst

The duo hone skills in both tension-building and crafting vivid song hooks. Hints of psychedelic influences are shown and in these more detailed moments the track reveals mirrored variations of escalating and descending synth arpeggios. Johanna’s haunting Warpaint-like vocals soar over the infectious rhythm of the instrumental, think Radiohead and Kraftwerk. When three of their colourful textures collaborate they merge into a spellbinding fusion, that’s as transparent as white.
