The video for the first single, “Seven Days“(directed by Eliu Cornielle and featuring the dancer Jasmine Mendoza) was premiered via NPR who described the track as; “shimmering, beautiful and languorous.” The song focuses on the seven days following the Bataclan attacks in Paris. The band told NPR; “We were in Paris during the attacks of Nov. 13 and what really touched us was seeing how the city and Parisians reacted to it. Paris is such a big and bustling city, it’s busy and noisy and people are always in a hurry. The days, even weeks, after the attacks, people were quiet, took the time to look at each other on the street, to be nice to strangers, to hug. We were all mourning together and it felt more human than ever.”
The band said of the video: “At first we were very hesitant about shooting a video for ‘Seven Days’ because of the subject matter and how close to our heart it is. We didn’t want images to distract from the content. But then we thought of Jasmine, who is an amazing dancer and who uses improvisation in her work. The idea of a body expressing the emotion we describe in the song felt right. We had no words for what happened and we still don’t, and Jasmine knew exactly how to interpret and transcribe our song into movements.”
After spending twelve months across 2014-2015 touring with musicians like Rachael Yamagata, Butch Walker and Hemming, The Dove and The Wolf had no intention of slowing down. They returned to Paris in September 2015, assuming they would return shortly to the States. Lou says; “We had just started working on our first album in LA when our one-year visas expired. Our lawyer told us it would probably take a month, maybe a month and a half to get back.” It took five.
They didn’t question whether they would get the visas back and return to America but, as Paloma points out, after two months not hearing anything they began to get nervous; “and then the attacks happened.”
Lou continued; “In the weeks after, nothing made sense anymore. We were so lost. Thank God we were still in Paris. It was important to be there in those weeks.”
When they returned to Philadelphia, they put a band together with drummer Craig Hendrix (Japanese Breakfast, Auctioneer, Jesse Hale Moore, Birdie Busch) and bass player Andy Black (Laser Background). They tracked the songs live with their new band members and Jesse Hale Moore on keys.
