It’s that time once again, as the countdown to the end of 2016 quickly approaches we take a personal look back on familiar names, features and musicians’ best releases of the past 12 months. In what has been a crazy year of highs and lows it’s the releases that have pulled a lot of people through the year. Now in it’s 6th year, Circuit Sweet will be hosting takeovers from the featured artists/musicians/labels and promoters of the site with their personal top 5 releases of the year.
Our annual end of year tradition is where we let our favourites take over the site to tell us the records that have made their end of year lists, their favourite events/gigs and what we can look forward to from them next year.
Our next take over comes from Worcester based 2 piece A Werewolf. A band that made our year with the incredible set at this years ArcTanGent. They started the year announcing their hiatus but by the end of Arc they realised they couldn’t stop now- and rightly so! We love this duo and we hand over to Zack and Niall to find out more about their insane year in music.
ZACK
Heriot – World Collapse
Slow, doomy, hardcore from Swindon. Heavy as shit live. Go see them!
G.L.O.S.S – Trans Day of Revenge
Another ferocious punk release from G.L.O.S.S, who have sadly have now split up. Angry lyrics and hard as fuck riffs.
Touche Amore – Stage Four
Slightly more melodic than previous releases in places. Every album this band releases is incredible. If you don’t know about Touche Amore by now do yourself a favour and listen to any release by them.
Against Me! – Shape-shift with me
More catchy punk rock from Against Me! Fantastic band with catchy riffs, choruses and personal, emotive lyrics from punk icon Laura Jane Grace.
Wormrot – Voices
Incredible, catchy Grindcore from Singapore. What else is there to say about this? If you’re a fan of extreme music you’ll love Wormrot.
NIALL
Ilenkus – Hunger
Crazy Irish dudes, who have released this amazing, heavy, mental, obnoxious 4 track record.
Touche Amore – Stage Four
Nothing more need be said!
Every Time I Die – Low Teens
Amazing album from a band that never fail to release stunning records.
PEARS – Green Star
Straight up punk rock.
Drive Time Commute – Bag of Snakes
What the fuck!
Modern Baseball – Holy Spirt
This is a beautiful album, one that needed to be in my top 5, but so did everything else. So I did a top 6!
The Best Gig Attended
A huge amount of shows have been attend by us (we go to most gigs together) and loads if of bands have been amazing. However we both went to see Against Me! on 6th December, as teenagers they were our favourite band so it was a nostalgia trip more than anything.
Highlights of your year
Playing ATG, and having the whole crowd shout FUCK YOU ZACK! which made him stay and we are still a band!
