Wooden Arms Release Dark, Surrealist Video for New Single Burial Ahead of July UK Tour
UK quintet Wooden Arms digitally release their new single Burial.
Inspired by an Edgar Allen Poe story Burial lulls the listener into a somniferous somber lullaby in its first section, a peace which is broken by a pulsating trip-hop heart-beat bassline. Burial continues to ramp up a sense of dread until finally it culminates in a furious, cacophonous clattering of sound. Taking influence from the melancholy of The National, the layered percussion of Tindersticks, the sparse soundscapes of Sigour Ros and the glitchy trip-hop sounds of Portishead, Wooden Arms make a sound both old and new, something layered, delicate and distinctive.
Apt for its Edgar Allen Poe inspiration, Burial’s accompanying video is dark and grotesque. Starting with a somewhat surrealist, sultry bar scene and ending unexpectedly with gore-filled cannibalism.
To mark the release of Burial, Wooden Arms play the following shows in July:
July 1st – St Pancras Old Church – London
July 2nd – Smuggler’s Records – Deal
July 3rd – Ramsgate Music Hall – Ramsgate
July 4th – The Hope and Ruin – Brighton
Burial follows the release of Wooden Arms debut mini-album Tide (2014, Butterfly Collectors) which was described as “utterly thrilling” (Sunday Times Culture); “brooding and delicate” (405) and “beautiful” (Tom Robinson, BBC 6Music). Burial is the first single taken from Wooden Arms forthcoming debut album Trick of The Light set for release early 2017.
