TWIN RIVER RELEASE NEW SINGLE KINIFE

TAKEN FROM NEW ALBUM PASSING SHADE OUT 1 JULY VIA LIGHT ORGAN RECORDS

Following the release of teaser tracks Anthony (via Stereogum) and Settle Down (via Interview Magazine), Canada’s Twin River have released new “deceptively dark” track Knife via Soundcloud, following its premiere on SPIN.

Described by SPIN as follows: The melody is mellow and beauty.  (Knife) sounds sweet and sunny until you take a second listen to the somewhat dark lyrics, as lead singer Courtney Ewan croons over strong guitar riffs, “Well there’s a shadow on my face and it’s shaped like a knife / You got me talking to myself when I sleep at night.” Knife starts off gently and builds to an explosive chorus, echoing Fleetwood Mac’s The Chain.

All tracks are taken from Twin River’s forthcoming second album Passing Shade which  follows the band’s debut long-player Light Go Out (2015, Light Organ Records). The songs on Passing Shadeinitially took the form of heartbroken, stripped-down ballads about lost love, than fleshed out by Twin River’s two main songwriters Courney Ewan and Andy Bishop, creating fiery rock scorchers that channel peppy pop catchiness with an undercurrent of atmospheric, synth-infused darkness. Bishop’s psych influences can be felt in the scorching electric guitar leads, while the soaring pop melodies and introspective lyrics preserve the core of Ewan’s confessional song-writing.

The ten songs were captured over two sessions with producer Colin Stewart (The New Pornographers, Black Mountain) at his secluded Hive studio on Vancouver Island. The band members lived at the studio while recording, and they kicked up a gleeful racket with the wailing guitar licks of tracks such as Knife, whilst Antony and Settle Down are hazy pop gems that douse infectious rhythms in washes of woozy ambience.

Passing Shade out on 1 July via Light Organ Records (on CD/Vinyl/Digitally).
