ALL THEM WITCHES
Reveal new video for ‘Open Passageways’
SOLD OUT UK dates begin February 28 at London’s The Lexington
New album Dying Surfer Meets His Maker out now on New West Records
Having just released their triumphant new album Dying Surfer Meets His Makerin Europe via New West Records, Nashville psych force All Them Witchesreveal a new music video for ‘Open Passageways’.
Inspired by vocalist and bassist Charles Parks’ experiences when spending winter in the remote locale of Elmgrove, Louisiana, All Them Witches drummer and founding member Robby Staebler reveals ‘Open Passageways’ aesthetic “is a hand drawn animation done by my brother Jason. He had over 100 hours in it when we approached him. We were initially going to have Chad VanGaalen do a second video for us, but when we saw the stock reels Jason had been working on in secret it made a lot of sense to have close blood on board. The synchronicity between his imagery, before we approached him, and the lyrical content was a little mind blowing.”
Their embryonic live performances often coagulate into a singular unit, a live-wire electrifying sound, which was captured on their first two studio albums, Our Mother Electricity (2012) and Lightning at the Door (2014). But if those records were a snapshot of the bands onstage chemistry, Dying Surfer Meets His Maker is an evolution into sophisticated psych-rock that’s ever-lurching forward, but never spirals out of control. “This band is like having four guitars,” Parks says, “I play bass like a guitar, Allen plays keys like a guitar, and Robby even plays drums like a guitar: he’s doing fills and rolls. It’s almost like the percussive element of fingerpicking, the sound of fingers on strings.”
“None of our shows are the same twice”, Parks adds. “We like not having to get up and play our songs the same way every night. It’s like jazz, where the main parts are there, but the rest is made up. We never say it, it just happens, we let the music talk for us.” Catch All Them Witches live in the UK on four dates beginning February 28th at London’s Lexington.
