FALSE ADVERTISING Release Teaser Track Piece of My Mind from New Brainless E.P. + Announce UK Shows
When Manchester trio False Advertising [aka Jen Hingley and Chris Warr on vocals, guitar, drums & Josh Sellers on bass] released their eponymous debut album in September 2015, Total Guitar hailed them as ‘Guitarists to Watch in 2016’ with their sound compared to Nirvana’s In Utero. Taking what The Skinny called “neo-grunge-chops” but adding “uncommonly accomplished song craft”, False Advertising rose effortlessly above the recent wave of grunge-inspired bands, creating instead their own style of “twisted power-grunge”, mixing up 90s US underground alt-rock, punk, post-hardcore and noise-rock with the infectiousness of pop-punk, and winning over fans with their high-energy instrument-swapping live sets.
Now False Advertising are back with the self-recorded and produced Brainless E.P. which is as lyrically hard-hitting as it is musically, with the snarling often sarcastic words and delivery inspired my traumatic events in singer and lyricist Jen Hingley’s life: “I experienced this thing in my family that was just so cruel. It left me helpless, bitter and frustrated. The bulk of the EP is kinda this weird sarcastic take on that feeling of loss.”
Piece of My Mind, the first teaser track to be taken from the E.P., is a slab of American-noise-rock, reminiscent of the melodic grunge soundscapes of The Smashing Pumpkins and contemporaries Kagoule.
Brainless E.P. is self-released on 22 April [CD/Digital] and is available to pre-order now via Bandcamp.
Brainless EP Tracklist: 1. Alopecia | 2. Give It Your Worst | 3. You’re Too Slow | 4. Piece of My Mind | 5. Sigh
