Rad Releases ’15- Quadrupède

December 29, 2015

Skye Portman Rad Releases

It’s that time once again, as the countdown to the end of 2015 quickly approaches we take a personal look back on familiar names, features and musicians’ best releases of the past 12 months. Circuit Sweet will be hosting takeovers from the featured artists of the site with their personal top 5 releases of the year.

Continuing our annual end of year tradition we let our favourites take over the site to tell us the records that have made their end of year lists, their favourite events/gigs and what we can look forward to from them next year.

Our next take over comes from an act who have topped our favourite live performances of the year, easily one of the best live bands of all time -the mighty Le Mans based 2-piece Quadrupède. Fitting in the genres of Noise Rock and Electronic Math Rock, Quadrupède mutate between the two and create something so unique they can call it their own. Joseph & Damien are the powerful force behind the captivating Quadrupède. With another great year behind them we hand over to the duo to discover more about their past 12 months.

Oneohtrix Point Never – Garden Of Delete

Blanck Mass – Dumb Flesh

The Chap – The Show Must Go

100%Chevalier – EP-EE

Holly Herndon – Platform

Difficult one, as i’ve mostly listened to records released before 2015, so i’ll just give you a mix of stuff i’ve really enjoyed and discovered this year :
– Postdrome – Never Without (2011)

Probably the record i’ve most listened to this year. It has a magic power over my brain. Time freezes when I listen to this. I can’t explain why I love this music so much, it just works for me.
– Xeno & Oaklander – Movements (2015)

I love this EP for the same reasons as for the one above. Time freeze / Brain melting music.
Gum Takes Tooth – Mirrors Fold (2014)

Mega ethnic drum patterns and super noisy epic synths and shit, can’t go wrong with me. Instant crush.
– 100%chevalier – EP-EE (2015)

OBVIOUSLY !! Heard these songs live way before they were recorded, and I can say the recorded versions are just as good as the live versions. Love the Steve Reich / Phasing reference on the Interlude track.
La Jungle – La Jungle (2014)

A band we discovered live this year, they are seriously great. Trancy Noisy Dancy music. Top quality !
  • The best show you have played this year and why

D: It’s really impossible to choose for me, each show was just incredible this year from the concert in our town (Le Mans) with Lingua Nada and without audience to this amazing ArcTangent.

J: Same as Damien, all shows were great in many many ways. Yet I think I have fond memories of the Century Festival gig, and the one at the Lezard Bar at the “Fête de la Musique” in our home town (Le Mans). They both have in common that the audience were in for a fucking riot, and felt like we could make the earth quake with our sounds. It was a nice feeling. Obviously ArcTanGent was amazing too, great experience.
  • The best gig you have attended and why

D: Colonie de Vacances feat. Greg Saunier (Deerhoof) – Less Playboy Is More Cowboy festival

100%Chevalier – Release Party/Molodoï/Strasbourg

Lingua Nada – Le Mans (0 audience, infinite fun)

Helms Alee – ArcTanGent festival

Deerhoof – ArcTanGent Festival

J: Colonie de Vacances @ Jean Carmet / Allonnes > Four bands playing at the same time, with the crowd in the middle = Mega riot
100%Chevalier – Release Party @ Molodoï / Strasbourg > Best dancefloor ever
Tomaga @ Le Temps Machine / Joué-les-Tours > Amazing drummer(ess), i was super impressed at how great they sound with such a minimalistic setup.
Lingua Nada @ La Source / Le Mans > I’ll quote Damien : (0 audience, infinite fun)
Mansield.Tya @ Jean Carmet / Allonnes > Two amazingly talented girls, that know how to write great songs with very things.
Deerhoof @ ArcTanGent Festival > Best Deerhoof show we’ve attended yet.
Vessels @ ArcTanGent Festival > I didn’t really know them before this show. Loads of goosebumps during that set !
  • Highlights of your year

D: ArcTanGent Festival without hesitation… A big huge experience on stage and in the crowd! And our first music video directed by Victor Pattyn released in september. I loved released this thing!

J: So many highlights I don’t know where to start ! A major highlight for me was having the privilege to play our music in many different places and seing people react to it in a positive way. I never expected that to happen, and feel extremely lucky it did.
Another highlight was releasing our video clip for “Mambo Pomelo”, directed by Victor Pattyn. It was a great new experience, and it felt good to collaborate with someone that shares the same “vibes”.
  • Artist/Band to watch for 2016

D: I had the opportunity to listen two new solo french projects (electro-experimental) that will be released in 2016, and I can say that it will be awesome: S T Ø J and Apollo Noir.

J: I’m looking forward to hear Three Trapped Tigers new album. I think La Jungle are going to release some new material, so looking forward to listen to that too. Florian, the guitarist from 100%chevalier has a new secret project with the drummer from Pauwels. I don’t know if they intend to release some stuff in 2016, but i for sure hope so !
Damien does some great art under the Serguei Spoutnik moniker, you should also check him out, I’ve heard he has some exciting projects to come !  And I’ll be releasing an EP from a new solo project, S T Ø J.
Releasing the S T Ø J EP, writing loads of new material for Quadrupède, moving into my new house, maybe play a few gigs with S T Ø J, and obviously with Quadrupède.
  • Plans for the New Year

D: Just making some art again and again, more and more (music and illustrations).

A huge thank you to both Damien and Joseph, you made our year so wishing all the best for the next one.
