Rad Releases ’15- Memory Of Elephants

December 30, 2015

Skye Portman Rad Releases

It’s that time once again, as the countdown to the end of 2015 quickly approaches we take a personal look back on familiar names, features and musicians’ best releases of the past 12 months. Circuit Sweet will be hosting takeovers from the featured artists of the site with their personal top 5 releases of the year.

Continuing our annual end of year tradition we let our favourites take over the site to tell us the records that have made their end of year lists, their favourite events/gigs and what we can look forward to from them next year.

Our next band take over comes from one of Bristol’s best live bands and another favourite of Circuit Sweet, Memory of Elephants.  We’ve caught Memory of Elephants perform live numerous times this year and each time they impress all with their aggressively technical abilities and their dynamic orchestrations. With a great year behind them we hand over to MoE to find out how the last 12 months went..

Rad releases:

1. Delta Sleep – Twin Galaxies

Amazing lyrics, INSANE level of musicianship, catchy as fuck choruses and some of the nicest guys around. Easily one of the best debuts…..ever!
2. Chiyoda Ku – Not Listening EP

We don’t want to praise them too much but, these boys are just too good…

3. Alright the Captain – Contact Fix

Riffs riffs riffs. ATC are the dog’s! Wicked live band (their set at ArcTanGent this year was amazing) and lovely guys!

4. Downard – Talk Shop EP

Downard are killer. They’ve taken the bass and drum two piece thing and done something truly unique with it. Katie’s tone is savage!
5. Milk Teeth – Sad Sack EP

When Toby heard the track Vitamins for the first time he had to pick his jaw up off the floor with a shovel – those guitar tones! One of the coolest releases of the year for sure.
Best gig we’ve played:
ArcTanGent warm up show back in May at the Stag & Hounds in Bristol. It was absolutely heaving, busiest we’ve ever seen the Stag and everyone there was just massively into the music. The lineup was amazing as well and it felt a big celebration of this small, weird scene that we’ve chosen to indulge ourselves in.
Best gig we’ve been to:
Jesus & Mary Chain @ the O2 back in February was insane – some of the loudest and most horrendous sounding guitars ever (that’s a good thing!) Vessels at simple things were lush, Chelsea Wolfe at the Fleece was mysterious yet mesmerising, ASIWYFA at the Marble Factory was insanity and Russian Circles at the Fleece was ominous. We could go on.
Highlights of the year:
Playing ArcTanGent for the third time was once again a huge thing for us. We felt so humbled to be invited back and share a stage with some of our favourite bands at the moment.
Playing MADE in Sheffield was amazing
– so relaxed! Everyone there was so friendly and it was probably the most chilled out approach to a gig we’ve ever encountered.
And our first ever tour with Chiyoda Ku back in March was awesome – so messy!
Artists to watch for 2016:
Chiyoda Ku, the boys have some serious talent, and they all smell like Johnson baby oil.
Plans for 2016:
EP in the new year, lots of touring and maybe an album?? Depends how lazy we are.
Thank you Memory of Elephants, looking forward to hearing that new EP!
