It’s that time once again, as the countdown to the end of 2015 quickly approaches we take a personal look back on familiar names, features and musicians’ best releases of the past 12 months. Circuit Sweet will be hosting takeovers from the featured artists of the site with their personal top 5 releases of the year.
Continuing our annual end of year tradition we let our favourites take over the site to tell us the records that have made their end of year lists, their favourite events/gigs and what we can look forward to from them next year.

Kicking the feature into full swing is one of our favourite UK bands around, Exeter based Math rock trio, Chiyoda Ku. The band have had a remarkable year with the release of their 4 track EP ‘Not Listening‘, followed by an incredible EP release show at The Stag and Hounds and a string of great live shows sharing the stages with the best instrumental bands about and an EU tour. The three have grown throughout these rewarding 12 months as have their fan base. We are thrilled to chat to guitarist Charlie, for his views on the year in music….
Number 1’s easy:
Contact Fix- Alright The Captain.
It took me a little while to realise just how brilliant this album is. ATC have always been one of those bands that always sound amazing live, and it’s hard to capture that sound in a recording, but they’ve nailed it.
2: Twin Galaxies- Delta Sleep.
Saw these guys in Bristol for the first time a while back, I’ve been listening to their music for a few years and they definitely lived up to expectations!
3: Digital Tropics- Mutiny On The Bounty.
I listened to this album when it first came out and I wasn’t that keen on it, but then I saw them live in Bristol and suddenly it clicked, I’ve been hooked on it ever since.
4: Mookie Island- Sea Monkey See.
These guys are the absolute coolest, nicest and craziest band I’ve ever had the privilege to play with. The album is awesome, and I pretty much live for the riff in Banana Breath at 3:40. Go check it out and be brainwashed.
5: Urth- Kagoule.
Only recently came across these guys at the Hockley Hustle in Nottingham, really love this album already!
Best gig I’ve played: probably a show we played a few months ago in a squat called Landbouwbelang, in Maastricht, Netherlands. It was like nothing I’ve ever experienced before, crazy good and I can’t wait to go back!
Best gig attended + highlight of the year: Provably doesn’t count as a gig but ArcTanGent is probably going to be the highlight of every year, amazing sets from Deerhoof, Alright the Captain and Quadrupéde to name just a few
Band to watch for 2016: It’s got to be that pesky noise rock band from Bristol… I can never remember their name.. it’s like “the memory of the elephants” or something along those lines… I don’t know. I’ll be watching them.
Plans for the new year: I want to do a load more touring, definitely go back to Europe. Maybe start writing an album, no rush though, we’re still little kids.
A huge thank you to Chiyoda Ku, we already miss your live shows and look forward to the next release, when it comes.
