Josefin Öhrn + The Liberation
Josefin Öhrn + The Liberation are a a Swedish band, fronted by Josefin Öhrn alongside Fredrik Joelson who heads up a collection of musicians called The Liberation. The band release their new single ‘Take Me Beyond’ today with their debut album ‘Horse Dance’ following 6 November both via Rocket Recordings. A full week ahead of the album’s official release, you can stream it in its entirety via Loud & Quiet.
Often compared to the likes of Can, Hawkwind, United States of America and Broadcast, Josefin Öhrn + The Liberation’s sound is a sonic kaleidoscope of driven krautrock and dreamy psychedelia. Their sound has been described as “mesmerising creepy pop grandeur” [Uncut] and “beautifully controlled, understated, subtle but infectious” [The Guardian].
In just over a year and with the release of their debut ‘Diamond Waves’ EP [June, 2014] Josefin Öhrn + The Liberation have seen a dramatic rise to prominence. They’ve toured their homelands with Goat and Les Big Byrd, played to huge crowds at Roskilde and were nominated for Best Newcomer at the Swedish Grammys. The single ‘Take Me Beyond’ – released today and taken from the forthcoming album ‘Horse Dance’ – had Lauren Laverne tweeting “Bloody hell…..this song” before making it her Headphone Moment, followed by a play on the Recommends show on BBC 6Music, with spins thereafter fromRadcliffe & Maconie. The band have garnered glowing coverage pre-album release in The Guardian, Noisey, Loud & Quiet, Uncut, Q, Arts Desk andBEAT magazine [to name only a few] with lead broadsheet and style press features across the Nordic press.
The digital single ‘Take Me Beyond’ is available to buy now, the long-player ‘Horse Dance’ follows 6 November [on CD/Vinyl/Digitally] and can be pre-ordered now. Both available via Bandcamp.
