East Coast Tour Dates Announced

Austin’s Magnet School are thrilled to share their new single “British Monuments,” the band’s first new music in five years. Slated for release as a limited edition tour single to coincide with the band’s East Coast dates, Shifting Sounds and Sunshine HQ will co-release the long awaited track on October 9th. “British Monuments” is a sneak peak of Magnet School’s upcoming sophomore album The Art of Telling The Truth, due out early next year.

The Vinyl District are sharing the premiere of the “British Monuments” music video, a blend of live and found footage that warps and reverses with the song’s shifting sonic landscape. Speaking about the song and it’s video, TVD shared, “The hardworking band is seen almost abstractly sawing away in super high contrast until they slowly come to focus as the music intensifies in the Craig Knapp-directed clip—its shards of dueling guitars by Michael J. Wane and Mark Ford in tight interplay as bassist Brandon Tuckerand drummer Erik Conn bash it out in a way that can’t be ignored.”

Magnet School have kept active since their last release, playing shows throughout the southern US including support for Shiner, …Trail of Dead, and Ume among others as well as a UK tour. It’s been a long time coming, but the wait for new music from the Austin shoegaze stalwarts is almost over. Magnet School have returned.

With a distinct sonic style that stands alone in a sea of underground music, Magnet School’s unique tunings and approach to songwriting have earned them a place among Texas’ elite shoegaze bands. Having previously released an EP, the band’s debut, and a 7” to great responses, Magnet School have earned attention and credibility throughout the alternative indie rock, dream pop, and shoegaze communities. Magnet School first emerged back in 2007 and were quickly named as a “Buzzcatcher” band by Spin Magazine as they released their debut album “Tonight We Drink… Tomorrow We Battle The Evil at Hand,” earning comparisons to Secret Machines and Dinosaur Jr. In the year’s since the band have played throughout the South and the UK including shows in London, Sheffield, and Liverpool as part of Will Sergeant’s (Echo & The Bunneymen) “FRICTION Presents” where they made an instant impression. The band followed their debut with “The Sitch,” a 7” single released in the UK in conjunction with the Midem Festival in Cannes, France.

Winning over fans with their energetic, layered wall of sound live shows, Magnet School have shared the stage with such diverse bands as …And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead, The Life and Times, Future of the Left, Ume, Ultimate Fakebook, Shiner, and I Love You But I’ve Chosen Darkness.

Magnet School have recently recorded & mastered their new full length album “The Art of Telling the Truth” scheduled to be released in January 2016. With the revival of the alt rock & shoegaze scenes, there couldn’t be a better time for this album to drop – it’s assured to blow doors and minds.
