New single and video for ‘Football’ online now

Tour with Speedy Ortiz in Oct // Headline tour in Nov

“I feel so ambiguous about football and especially the kind of football that you can watch on TV, but I basically can’t deny how important it is to a lot of the relationships I have with people”

And in that conversation, Ellis Jones, aka Trust Fund, perhaps sums up why so many people cannot shake their undying love for the nation’s sport.

Or, perhaps more emphatically, as Ellis sings in the new Trust Fund single and video:

“when you stop feeling weird in 10, or 12, or 15 years, what will we even have to talk about…? FOOTBALL!”

Football, appearing here as a video clip by Bristol savant James Hankins, is the latest single to be taken from Trust Fund’s forthcoming album Seems Unfair, out October 30th via Turnstile. Watch the video now on YouTube.

Seems Unfair comes just months after their acclaimed debut No One’s Coming For Us, which was released in February of this year.  Despite the short time between records, Seems Unfair is a marked progression in terms of song-writing and production, this time recorded by Hookworms’ MJ in Suburban Home studios, Leeds. Seems Unfair retains the vital excitement that made the debut release such a delight, whilst refining the pop sensibilities and never shying from the self-reflection and attention to detail that has already singled out Ellis Jones as a lyrical talent.

‘Dreams’, Seems Unfair’s first single is playful and reflective and quickly became a favourite on BBC Radio 6Music, as well as winning praise from NME, Noisey, DIY and Stereogum. Follow-up single ‘Football’ is a triumphant shrug toward ennui and self-doubt, hitting melodic heights previously unheard by Trust Fund.

A more ambitious record than their debut, Seems Unfair sees Trust Fund truly hone and sharpen their musical craft, as demonstrated in the unashamedly rocky ‘4thAugust’ and the slow-burning and climatic title track. As lyrically heartfelt as it is, Seems Unfair consistently pushes Trust Fund’s sound, with no detriment to the excitement and euphoria of the record.

An outfit borne of community, Trust Fund are a changing group of musicians led chiefly by Ellis Jones. Having previously played alongside the likes of Los Campesinos! and Joanna Gruesome, Trust Fund will tour with Speedy Ortiz in October, before a headline show at London’s The Lexington on November 4th. Tickets for all shows are available now.

Seems Unfair is released October 30th by Turnstile and is available to pre-order now from Trust Fund’s bandcamp page (LP and t-shirt) or iTunes.
