Operator Premiere “Requirements” via Stereogum

Debut EP “Puzzlephonics I” Due out October 9th

Album Release Event Planned at Reverse Gallery

Operator are sharing “Requirements” the pulsating new single from the band’s upcoming debut EP, Puzzlephonics I. Due out on October 9th, the Brooklyn based quartet, led byDara Hirsch (1989 Recordings) and Jared Hiller (Shark? / L0rez Effects) are sharing the second piece of their krautrock inspired puzzle with Stereogum., “Requirements” is driven by a cool confidence, the result of a motorik rhythm and scrapes of analog synth and guitar voice that all swell and fade in moments notice. Hirsch’s voice cuts through the swirling noise as she sings, “it’s so radical, or so you’ve been told,” with chilling perfection. Operator’s infectious krautrock rhythms and interlocking analog synth grooves burn their way into your consciousness like a well oiled machine and “Requirements” is hypnotic noise pop at it’s finest. While the groove could easily carry itself into a ten minute blissed out voyage, Operator abruptly stop just after the three minute mark, leaving listeners hungry for more.

Stereogum shared the exclusive premiere, offering, “the band focus on deep grooves embedded between stuttering drums and anarchic noise rock. Dara Hirsch’s intoxicating, lingering vocals slur, “Whose side are you on, at the end of the day?” It’s deliriously addictive, helping to make Operator’s abstract noise dissonance such a compelling endeavor.”

Pulling inspiration from artists such as Stereolab and Beak>, Operator’s sound is marked by warbling analogue synthesizers, driving motorik beats and waves of feedback noise. What ultimately defines their sound is their aesthetic malleability, the weaving of influences from krautrock to art pop to electronic minimalism, all while never appearing too serious, or too silly. The initial concept was born from the collective minds of Dara Hirsch (guitar/synth/vox) and Jared Hiller (guitar/synth/vox), but was not fully realized until Adrian Price-Whelan (bass), and Landen Griffith (drums) were recruited. The tracks off their first EP, Puzzlephonics I, were mixed by Hirsch (1989 Recordings) and displays Hiller’s (L0/rez Effects) innovative approach to electronic circuitry and textures. The cover art was designed by Griffith, who also acts as the band’s art director.
