Washington, DC’s Swings Join Exploding In Sound Records

Sophomore Album “Sugarwater” Due Out November 13th

Share Album B-Side “Cleaner Spirit” and Tour Dates

Exploding In Sound Records is thrilled to announce that Washington, DC’s Swings have joined the roster. The young and impossibly creative trio are getting ready to release their sophomore album Sugarwater on November 13th. Following last year’s Detergent Hymns release on Quiet Year Records, the trio decided to take some time off from college to focus on their music and touring and the results are evident on the band’s boundary pushing new record. The band’s blend of jazz, indie rock, experimental emo, hauntingly twisted pop, and the punk of their hometown is something unique and altogether refreshing.

With further details surrounding the album slated for September, Swings are sharing a b-side from the recording sessions, “Cleaner Spirit,” a futuristic blast of intricate indie rock with nods to bossa-nova jazz punk, complex math rock tendencies and a genre defiant use of auto-tune. The band are making great use of their time off from school, currently on the road with Kissing Fractures with plans to spend much of the Fall and Winter out in support of Sugarwater. Tour dates include stops at the Exploding In Sound Records “Thank You For Being A Friend” Extended Weekend at O’Brien’s in Boston as well as dates with Small Wonder, Palm, Vundabar, Multicult, Sitcom, and more. See all dates below.

Recent praise for Swings:”their debut album Detergent Hymns is a study in contradiction, sounding low-key and loose while still carefully composed, turning on a dime from uneasy dissonance to sweet melodicism, from relaxed noodling to a whirlwind of noise.” – Stereogum

“a murky fever dream of snaking bass, creaking vocals and down-the-rabbit-hole lyrics that pulls you deep into its madness.” – NME

“Swings, a relatively new, slowcore-indebted concern from the fertile DC scene, proffers a unpredictable, shifting sound that neatly situates the band within independent music’s collection of indefinite expressionists.” – Clicky Clicky Music

Digital copies of the album are available for review consideration. Please email dan@brixtonagency.com. The band is available for interviews upon request.
