Last year’s album Metamodern Sounds in Country Music gained Sturgill Simpson the crown of Emerging Artist of The Year at the Americana Awards as well as a nomination for the Grammy Awards.

Fresh of selling out two nights at The Ryman in Nashville in 15 minutes (and a third night after adding an extra one), the Kentucky bred, Nashville based artist returns to Europe this month to play a few festivals and headline shows in Edinburgh, Leeds and London. Label mate Texan singer songwriter Joe Pug will be joining him for the UK dates:

Metamodern Sounds in Country Music followed hot on the heels of highly acclaimed Simpson’s debut album, High Top Mountain and was produced once again by friend and trusted collaborator Dave Cobb. It was recorded live-to-tape at Nashville’s LCS studio over four days in late 2013.

Metamodern Sounds In Country Music, which was featured in year-end “Best of 2014” lists at Mojo, Uncut, The New York Times, Rolling Stone, Rough Trade, Pitchfork, Rolling Stone Country, NPR Music, American Songwriter, Stereogum, the Los Angeles Times, KCRW, The Guardian, The Washington Post, Paste, No Depression and many others.

Of the album, Simpson comments, “Myriad worldly offerings—religion, drugs, and more—all claim to be the omnipotent universal truth, but in my experience, love is the only certainty. That’s what this record is about.”
